Impact of Montmorillonite Clay on Polysulfone Mixed Matrix Membrane for Heavy Metal Adsorption

چکیده

Exposure to high levels of heavy metals exerts serious health hazards humankind. It is, hence, imperative limit exposure by avoiding their consumption, direct or indirect, and appropriately disposing items that may contain metals. To explore removal efficacy, montmorillonite (MMT), a type clay, was prepared at varying dosages (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 wt%) fabricate polysulfone mixed matrix membranes for treating aqueous solution contaminated with cadmium lead. The are characterized scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR), energy dispersive X-rays (EDX), water uptake test, pure flux calculation, metal adsorption test. particle size distribution MMT is first measured covering the range 1 42 μm. FTIR spectra MMT-filled indicate silica functional group dominates elemental composition. revealed modified design improves 83% compared pristine membrane. MMM membrane fastest among ~2500 L/m2·h most porous porosity 10%. Heavy rejection measurement shows can remove lead 3% 14%, respectively. Furthermore, all show solute more than 500 L/m2·h. incorporation has successfully altered become high-flux capable cadmium- lead-rich water. Further study needed utilize treat wastewater.

A Model for Metal Adsorption on Montmorillonite.

A consistent thermodynamic model is developed for metal sorption on expanding 2:1 layer clays such as montmorillonite. The particle of clay, including lamellae and interlayers, is represented as a porous solid bearing a permanent negative charge (resulting from isomorphic substitution) with an infinite plane interface (i.e., edges) with the solution. Cation exchange occurs inside the clay parti...

Fluoride adsorption studies of montmorillonite clay

Batch adsorption studies were conducted to determine the effects of contact time and temperature on fluoride removal by montmorillonite clay at neutral pH. The adsorption of fluoride was studied at four different temperatures, viz. 30, 40, 50 and 60°C. The kinetics of adsorption as well as adsorption isotherms at different temperatures were studied. Adsorption obeyed both Langmuir and Freundlic...

Hydrophobicity Properties of Graphite and Reduced Graphene Oxide of The Polysulfone (PSf) Mixed Matrix Membrane

Hydrophobicity properties of graphite and green synthesized graphene (gsG) from exfoliated graphite/GO towards polymer membrane characteristic and properties at different weight percentage concentrations (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 wt. %) were investigated. PSf/graphite and PSf/gsG membranes were characterized in term of hydrophobicity, surface bonding, surface roughness and porosity. FTIR peaks revealed...

Using Nanocomposites of Chitosan and Montmorillonite for Adsorption of Heavy Metal Ions from Wastewater

Common technologies for heavy metal removal are membrane separation, ion exchange, electro-deposition, and chemical precipitation. These methods prove to be costly and inept, especially in removing trace amounts of heavy metals [2]. Another disadvantage is the production of sludge or mud, which requires proper disposal and confi nement [3]. On the other hand, adsorption eff ectively removes con...
